Our Family Story: Love in Action
Family is at the heart of Zierke Consulting Group. Shawn and her husband, Borge, have been married over 33 years and are proud parents to five adult children, their adopted son Samuel Christian, and grandparents to Arlo, and three more to arrive Fall 2025.
When Samuel's life hung in the balance awaiting a heart transplant, Shawn and Borge answered the call to become his family. Their journey of faith and resilience fuels the passion they bring to every client they serve.

Samuel's birthmother received a prenatal diagnosis of a congenital heart defect, that was severe and life threatening. At two weeks of age, Samuel had open heart surgery, and his life was sustained via a Berlin Heart. Although he was at the top of the transplant list, he failed several times to receive a new heart because he did not have a stable home, an adoptive family. When Shawn and Borge heard about Samuel, they stepped up. To quote Borge's reason: "If we aren't called to [care for Samuel] then what are we called to do?"

In the last year, Shawn has helped to form seven state coalitions of pregnancy centers as 501c6 member organizations and offered lobbying training. She has helped twelve centers expand medical services, eight organizations to achieve AAAHC Accreditation, conducted eight board trainings, led capital campaigns for four organizations, completed delivery of four grant writing courses to 21 organizations, written eight million dollar grants, and coached dozens of organizational leaders. Her clients are located all over the United States.
Shawn, our principal, has crafted a non-profit board training questionnaire for board members and Executive Directors that helps identify strengths to build upon and opportunities for growth. She provides her clients with a 360 evaluation of their organization and offers suggestions, best practices and policy templates for success.
Shawn, Janelle, and Rachel, together, offer leadership training for medical staff, EDs, and board members.

Janelle is a skilled Leadership Coach with over 20 years of professional management development and operations communications experience. Janelle is currently completing her Master Coach Certification through the International Coaching Federation to cement her extensive experience and successful career coaching leaders to perform at their highest potential. You might ask yourself "why would I need a Leadership Coach?". The answer is simply - "we can always perform better, communicate more effectively, and learn something new!" Janelle is a master diplomat and artful wordsmith that can develop professionals who may never have received formal management or leadership training in their chosen career path. Rachel currently lives with her husband, Luke, of 1 year in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She is mother to her nearly 10 year old Great Pyrenees - Jax.
Rachel and Luke will be relocating to Orlando FL in early Fall 2023.
